New SharePoint Whitepaper – Working with Large Lists in Office SharePoint Server 2007
Another great white paper for developers and anyone else dealing with large lists in SharePoint, the recently released Working with Large Lists in Office SharePoint Server 2007 white paper provides a great comparison of the query methods available for SharePoint lists.
As described on the Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies Team Blog, the paper evaluates performance characteristics of large SharePoint lists under different loads and modes of operation. As virtually all end-user data in MOSS is stored in lists, this is an essential read for those planning or developing scalable sites. Some of the interesting conclusions are how performant the PortalSiteMapProvider object is within MOSS, and how MOSS performs as it uses huge lists that contain 150k+ items.
